Previously, there has been an unspoken understanding that the focus on Training within Project Everest is to ultimately develop the leader within on a personal level, drawing them closer to releasing the potential they hold. While personal development is important, it is clearly not in line with achieving the aims of solving complex issues using enterprise. We are no longer willing to sacrifice the simple fact that hustling hard and making shit happen should come at a cost of time and human resources going into building a leader who isn’t willing to hold an open mindset and take responsibility for their own development. To put it simply, we are not here to boost your ego, solve your issues or hold your hand.

What is clear however, is that providing an intense training environment, and context overseas where there is an inherent understanding in the goal of the leadership team to ultimately move Projects forward, propagates development at the personal level as a consequence.

Leaders and Alumni who are hoping to move into further leadership roles, must be willing to do everything within their power to contribute to the development of their Project. Leadership Training is designed to provide you with the necessary skills and resources to drive impact and utilise a team or group to do so. It is not designed for those with ulterior motives, nor is it designed to solely facilitate your development as a person. You will achieve this organically if you commit your entirety to solving a complex problem or problems; if you are able to seek out additional and new ways of doing so; if you are willing to hustle hard, fight for what you need and utilise your Team or Group as a resource; if you are willing to learn on your own.

As a leader, you are to understand that equipping your team or group is key to achieving your aims. Building other leaders is a sure way to develop yourself. You will be entirely across your Project or Projects and you will do all you can to ensure success. This doesn’t mean ‘leaving your Trekkers or Team Leaders to figure it out on their own.’ What this means is offering support in all ways possible. This doesn’t mean sort out their everyday activities or hold their hands, but it does mean providing consistent direction, looking for ways to constantly improve, and enabling them, by following the mantra that ‘Projects and People Come First.’

The ‘X-Factor’ is something you can acquire. All it takes is a shift in attitude: consistently drive to seek out your own development. And use this to contribute to something much greater. There is nothing more refreshing than a leader who takes responsibility for themselves- enabling others around them to complete their part rather than just ‘doing the job.’

If there is a need for something to happen to push a Project forward, there is a way to make it happen. And as a leader, it is your job to find that way. Do this, and live this in all your actions and you will reap the ultimate reward of unleashing something within you that you didn’t (as corny as it sounds) think was possible.
